Women’s Workshop Tackles Workforce Re-Entry and Career Changes

Branding yourself as an excellent job candidate can be a challenge for anyone, more so for a woman with an employment gap or one who is positioned to leave her current career behind. Springboard Careers’ transition, coaching and résumé writing professionals will help women overcome these obstacles on Friday, October 12, 2012 with “Skill Up & Spring Ahead: Career Workshop for Women.” The workshop takes place from 6:45–9:00 PM at the Blue Ball Barn, 1914 West Park Drive, Wilmington, DE 19803. The cost is $40.00 and participants can register at springahead2012-eorg.eventbrite.com.

This workshop is ideal for job candidates who, due to spending time out of the workforce, may be facing the hiring process with an outdated résumé, and navigating a different corporate culture with newer technologies. Says Springboard co-founder Julie MacWilliams:

“Whether it was one year or ten, if you’ve taken time off for family or other needs, you will need to demonstrate your value in today’s workplace. The title might be the same, but most likely the job you held in the past now incorporates new technologies and added responsibilities, and your old résumé won’t fit the bill. For those who may be unsure of where they fit in today’s environment, we will help them find confidence, populate their résumés with relevant experience, and brand themselves as the best candidates for the jobs they seek.”

Springboard co-founder Erin Sicuranza adds,

“The same tips we give to women re-entering the workforce apply to women seeking a career redirection. Your résumé may be limited if it stops at the accomplishments of your current job. It may need to reflect different professional, and even volunteer, experiences you’ve acquired to get you the job you want. We will talk about transferable skills and work in groups for hands-on application.”

MacWilliams and Sicuranza will co-facilitate the workshop along with Dr. Lani Nelson-Zlupko of LNZ Consulting. MacWilliams’ background in corporate marketing makes her an expert at “packaging” new or revamped products; for someone reentering the workforce, the packaging helps demonstrate that candidate’s value. Sicuranza’s background in instructional design and professional development enables her to identify what skills a candidate needs to succeed and create the plan for how to build them. Nelson-Zlupko is a licensed therapist and executive coach who specializes in helping people move forward with career, family, and life.

In a small classroom setting, participants will visit case studies of job candidates in similar situations and learn best practices on current résumé styles, followed by some Q&A. Participants are eligible for a 10% discount on professional résumé writing services through Springboard Careers.
