Verizon Wireless Enhances Substantially Complete 4G LTE Network In South Dover, Delaware

Verizon Wireless recently activated new 4G LTE coverage in South Dover, further expanding the company’s high-speed wireless data network coverage. The expansion provides increased wireless voice and 4G LTE data coverage in South Dover.

4G LTE lets Verizon Wireless customers use their 4G LTE-enabled devices to surf the Web, post status updates and photos, share music, and download files at speeds up to 10 times faster than customers on 3G networks. Customers can count on consistent reliability, coverage and quality network performance from the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE network.

In real-world, fully-loaded network environments, Verizon Wireless customers will be able to use their 4G LTE smartphones, tablets, notebooks, laptop modems and mobile hotspots to experience average data rates of 5 to 12 megabits per second (Mbps) on the downlink and 2 to 5 Mbps on the uplink.

“We’ve always believed the best wireless devices deserve the best wireless network, because that’s what really matters to people,” said Randall Miller, Executive Director of Network, Verizon Wireless Philadelphia Tri-State Region. “People everywhere are increasingly relying on their tablets, smartphones and apps to stay organized, connected, entertained and efficient.”

“We are proud that our 4G LTE network and our team are relied on during times of emergency,” Miller said. “Organizations like People’s Pantry in Toms River, New Jersey, looked to us following Hurricane Sandy, and we were able to help empower them. Our network and services offered in our wireless emergency communication centers immediately after the storm kept displaced residents connected and offered some peace of mind. That commitment to reliability exists throughout our entire Philadelphia Tri-State region, which is why we have invested $186 million in the region in 2012 alone.”

Verizon Wireless has invested more than $2 billion in the network in the Philadelphia Tri-State Region since 2000 to increase coverage and capacity on behalf of customers.

Currently, the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE network is available in over 500 markets across the United States. The Verizon Wireless 4G LTE network covers more than 94 percent of the Philadelphia region, including Greater Philadelphia, the Lehigh Valley, Harrisburg, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, large portions of southern New Jersey and all of Delaware.

Additionally, Verizon Wireless’ overall network continues to be the leader in key metro areas, according to RootMetrics, with recent number-one rankings in Philadelphia, Harrisburg, Lancaster and Allentown.* In all four areas, Verizon Wireless ranked highest in data performance and overall performance, coming in tops among four national carriers.

When customers travel outside of a 4G LTE coverage area, 4G LTE devices automatically connect to Verizon Wireless’ 3G network, where available, enabling customers to stay connected from coast to coast. Verizon Wireless’ 3G network is the most reliable high-speed data network in the country and allows customers in 3G coverage areas who purchase 4G LTE devices today to take advantage of 4G LTE speeds when the faster network becomes available in their area, or when they travel to areas already covered by 4G LTE. The 4G LTE network now covers 99 percent of the 3G coverage area, an accomplishment completed in almost half the time it took to build out the original 3G network.

Verizon Wireless customers can also take advantage of HomeFusion™ Broadband, a solution that leverages the power and speed of the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE network to deliver high-speed, in-home Internet access for residential broadband, particularly in areas where Internet options are limited or are not currently available.
