Turbo Tax not so speedy this time

If you got caught in the server traffic jam over at Intuit software this past weekend we have good news. The IRS will not penalize filers who are late because of the software snafu. You now have until Midnight Thursday, April 19th. Turns out a lot of people tried to file online at the last minute with TurboTax. Some got through, some got notices that they had filed when the information had in fact only been stored on Intuit’s servers and others were rejected out of hand and gave up.

In other late filing news, the IRS extended the time to file for northeast storm victims until April 26th. The IRS also provides a six month extension of time to file AND pay to the victims, families and emergency responders involved in the horrible Virginia Tech massacre.

The IRS also has discovered a tax scam that lures users into providing tax information by spoofing Free File Alliance sites. They would like to remind all filers to go to the IRS.gov site and click on “2007 Free File” to begin.
