The League of Women Voters of Delaware (LWVDE) and Delaware Interfaith Power and Light invite concerned citizens, business community and government officials to attend one of four public information meetings during Sea Level Rise Awareness Week, starting Sept. 16.

“This vital discussion fits into the league’s ongoing energy study efforts to plan for climate change impacts that cannot be avoided, especially sea level rise,” said Charlotte King, president of the Delaware League.

The LWVDE and Delaware Interfaith Power & Light are sponsoring these meetings in cooperation with the Delaware Nature Society, South Wilmington Planning Network, the Delaware Chapter of the American Planning Association, the City of Wilmington and the churches listed below.

Meetings are scheduled Monday, Sept. 16, Christ Episcopal Church, South State & Waters Sts., Dover; Wednesday, Sept. 18, Limestone Presbyterian Church, 3201 Limestone Rd., Wilmington; Friday, Sept. 20, St. Peter’s Church, 211 Mulberry St., Lewes; and Tuesday, Sept. 24, Elbert-Palmer Elementary School, 1210 Lobdell St., Southbridge. All meetings are from 7-8:30 p.m. and will include a Q&A session. Discussion topics include the science behind climate change and sea level rise, ethical and social justice considerations, and Delaware Sea Level Rise Advisory Committee recommendations for how Delaware can best adapt to unavoidable changes in sea level rise.
