JUNIOR ACHIEVEMENT SENDS BUSINESS PROFESSIONALS BACK TO SCHOOL

Local businesspeople including Carol Everhart, President of Rehoboth Beach-Dewey Beach Chamber of Commerce and Sea Witch Festival Creator, take JA entrepreneurship, work readiness and financial literacy programs to the classroom.

Across the community, kids of all ages have headed back to school. At the same time, many businesspeople are preparing to do the same—as Junior Achievement volunteers.

Each year, business professionals, parents, retirees and college students help students in Junior Achievement programs develop the skills they need to succeed in a competitive economy. Using their personal experiences in combination with JA’s innovative, age-appropriate curricula, these volunteers teach young people about entrepreneurship, work readiness and financial literacy.

Junior Achievement is proud to announce an exciting volunteer this fall, Carol Everhart, creator of Sea Witch Festival and President of Rehoboth Beach-Dewey Beach Chamber of Commerce. With 24 years of Halloween experience hosting Rehoboth’s annual Sea Witch Festival, she will be bringing her business expertise to students in the JA Entrepreneurship Essentials afterschool programs at Mariner and Beacon Middle Schools talking about “The Business of Halloween” on October 29th and October 31st. In addition to Carol Everhart, Junior Achievement is pleased to have volunteers throughout Sussex county serving students in our schools including Jeremy Reed (County Bank), Dawn Cherix (Upward Bound Georgetown), James Wheatley (Woodbridge School District), Michelle Rumble, June Betts (Bank of Delmarva), Linda Webb-Jenkins, Joseph J. McCann, Michelle Erskine (Selbyville Middle School), Margaret Ravida, Robert Ravida, Rony Flechier (Seafood School District), Becky Evaristo (Delaware Technical & Community College), Carol Kinsley and Wade Thompson (Edward Jones). In the 2012-2013 school year, JA of Delaware was fortunate with the help of our community members to impact almost 15,000 students statewide, 1,270 of which were Sussex County students.

“Volunteers are the heart of Junior Achievement, helping the organization empower young people to own their economic success. They inspire our children to discover their potential and find their niches in the 21st-century global marketplace,” said Rob Eppes, president of JA of Delaware. “Without volunteers’ dedication and excellence, JA would not be able to provide the positive impact it has on the local community.”

Junior Achievement of Delaware is currently seeking volunteers for this year’s programs in Sussex County. JA offers programs from kindergarten through 12th grade and orients volunteers on how to utilize the user-friendly materials and work with students. Those interested in volunteering for JA of Delaware should contact JA staff by phone at (302) 654-4510 or visit the website at www.jadelaware.org.
