Hagley Advances eRecord Collection

Hagley Museum and Library acquired a cloud-based digital preservation service called Preservica. Preservica provides the necessary infrastructure for Hagley to acquire, process, and preserve digital records such as email and web sites, digital audio and video, and digital photographs.

Dr. Erik Rau, director of library services for Hagley Museum and Library said: “Businesses are making strategic business decisions and communicating them internally, no longer strictly by paper, but instead via born-digital documents. To continue our reputation into the twenty-first century as a leading repository for the history of American business, technology, and industrial design, we have equipped ourselves with the ability to capture and preserve born-digital documents.”

Hagley’s collections document the interaction between business and the cultural, social, and political dimensions of society from the late eighteenth century to the present. The digital age has challenged the traditional archival practices of acquisition, storage, and access. With its new digital preservation infrastructure, Hagley will have the necessary tools to document the history of American enterprise for future researchers.
