Camp Social Media presents a workshop to help businesses take charge of Facebook

Summer camp isn’t just for kids! Learn how to use social media to improve your business.

The founders of Camp Social Media—JulieAnne Cross, Jessica Kupferman and Nancy Solero—have been fielding questions about social media ever since Facebook expanded beyond college campuses and opened membership up to what is today over a quarter of a billion users. Now, the professional advice they’ve given clients and casual advice they’ve given to friends is available to business owners, entrepreneurs and marketers through a series of hands-on social media workshops. The first, “Take Charge of Your Facebook Page” is offered in both a morning and an evening session, on Wednesday, July 27, 2011, from 9am to Noon, and from 6-9pm at the offices of Downtown Visions, 409 N. Orange Street, Wilmington, Delaware. Downtown Visions and Main Street Wilmington are sponsors of the first workshop.

Says Camp Co-founder JulieAnne Cross,

“Facebook has become an essential part of doing business – just as important as your website, your phone number and your email address,”

noting that while many businesses have taken the leap into Facebook, they are not comfortable with their progress. She often hears business owners saying that they are flying by the seat of their pants. This workshop will help relieve the anxiety that Facebook Page puts on a Page owner.

The anxiety is understandable. By Camp Co-Founder Jessica Kupferman’s count,

“There are 750 million people spending 700 billion minutes on Facebook every month. Facebook is now more popular than Google for looking up information!”

She contends that if you aren’t taking advantage of Facebook’s captive audience, you and your business are missing out on opportunities. As a web consultant, she also uses her clients’ Facebook Pages as part of their search engine optimization (SEO) strategies.

This Take Charge workshop is designed for people who have a Facebook Page for their business, non-profit, band, club, cause or “product” of any size, and also for people who haven’t yet created a Page. Each participant is asked to bring a laptop (or arrange in advance with the Camp to borrow one) and a personal Facebook login tied to his or her own name. Additional requirements: either a completed Facebook Page or a digital logo and desired name for their new Page. The workshop agenda includes step-by-step instruction and time for questions and experimentation.

Says Co-Founder Nancy Solero,

“What’s different about this workshop versus other sessions you’ve been invited to? We are not just going to cover theory and philosophy. This is an interactive, get-it-done, working session.”

Participants will leave the workshop with a Facebook Page properly set up and the tools to manage it—a growth and engagement strategy, a plan for content and resources to keep them informed—plus a network of people to turn to for help in the future.
