The Claymont Renaissance Development Corporation, Inc.

Old Kings Highway

Have you ever heard of The Claymont Renaissance Development Corporation, Inc.?
Chances are pretty good that you may have read something about them recently- maybe just last month in the News Journal, or Delaware Today Magazine.

If you haven’t heard about them yet I’m willing to bet that you will soon.

So who are they?

Their bylaws say it all:

[CDRC] shall work to develop and implement strategies that will increase the economic vitality of the Claymont community, enhance Claymont’s reputation as an attractive and desirable place to live, and build on Claymont’s unique history and character to strengthen its role as an area of cultural and social activity.

Back in the 1960’s when Philadelphia Pike was widened, and the Tri-State Mall and the Concord Mall were built, Claymont was converted to a franchise-scape with many fast food restaurants, gasoline stations, and other auto-oriented uses. The Claymont Renaissance Group plans to change that identity by recreating opportunities to live, work, shop and recreate in a small-town environment.

Sounds pretty good, but what would it look like?

How about going from this-

to this-

If you like that visit their website for much, much more.
Better yet, why not get involved? The group meets on the third Thursday of every month at 5:00 P.M. in the Claymont Community Center.
You are always welcome to attend these meetings.
