Hagley Exhibit Honors 100 Years of the United States Chamber of Commerce

Hagley celebrates the 100th anniversary of the United States Chamber of Commerce with a new exhibit, “100 Years of Picturing the Nation’s Business: Photographs from the Collection of the Chamber of Commerce of the United States of America.” This exhibit of photographs will show the history of business in the United States in the twentieth century and the Chamber’s role in ensuring the growth of the U. S. economy. The exhibit opens September 8, 2012 and runs through February 3, 2013.

“100 Years of Picturing the Nation’s Business: Photographs from the Collection of the Chamber of Commerce of the United States of America” features original prints from some of the twentieth century’s greatest photographers such as Lewis Hine, Margaret Bourke-White, Arthur Rothstein, William Rittase, Robert Yarnall Richie, Dorothea Lange, in addition to anonymous corporate and commercial photographers, and photographs from U. S. government agencies. Some pictures capture moments in our nation’s history: reaction to the stock market crash, aftermath of the Dust Bowl, and news of the Titanic sinking. Other pictures show companies such as Ford Motors and American Airlines as they made their start in the twentieth century.
