10 Essential Elements of an Entrepreneurship Program (and where to find them)

Some people hold the belief that there are just some things in business that can’t be taught. Me? I’m not so sure. While it’s true that every aspiring entrepreneur needs to bring something (like motivation) to the table, I think you can learn a great deal from other places. Practical experience is one of them. Higher education is another. So, maybe you are ready to take the next step and go (or go back to) school. How do you know what to look for in an entrepreneurship program?

These are the 10 Essential Elements of an Entrepreneurship Program, according Entrepreneur Magazine:

  • Experiential learning
  • Approachable professors
  • Mentorship programs
  • Faculty experienced in entrepreneurship
  • Interdisciplinary program offerings
  • Community involvement
  • Partnerships with entrepreneurial organizations
  • Innovative and creative environment
  • Graduate support
  • A school that fits who you are
  • Ok, so now you know what you are looking for, where do you get it?
Entrepreneur Magazine, with the help of the Princeton Review, has ranked the top 50 entrepreneurial colleges at both the undergraduate and the graduate levels.

More than 900 undergraduate and graduate schools were surveyed. Schools were asked, among other things, if they offer an entrepreneurial major or minor, what types of and how many entrepreneurial-appropriate courses they offer, and what entrepreneurial opportunities were available to students.
