Hagley’s Invention Convention

Hagley Museum and Library announces green initiatives for its family-favorite event, Invention Convention.

Hagley’s Invention Convention will be Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, January 14, 15, and 16. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., youngsters will invent, explore, examine, experience, and get excited about science and engineering! This year, Goodwill of Delaware and Delaware County and Delaware Solid Waste Authority will teach visitors about reusing and recycling. Admission, including supplies, is $4 per child (4-14), $6 per adult, and free for Hagley members and children 3 and under. Use Hagley’s Buck Road East entrance off Route 100.

Reuse! Goodwill of Delaware and Delaware County is donating items to be used at the Tinkering Tables. At the Tinkering Tables, children can safely take apart appliances, machines and other discarded items like computers, telephones, and radios. Goodwill will be accepting donations from visitors.

Recycle!
The Delaware Solid Waste Authority will provide a recycling receptacle so that materials used at the Tinkering Tables are disposed of properly.

“Invention Convention has an opportunity to be an environmentally-friendly event. We began that process at this past year’s event and are taking greater strides at the 2012 Invention Convention,” says Education Coordinator Jeff Durst.

At the Create-An-Invention Workshop, kids can build an invention using familiar household items like cereal boxes, paper towel rolls, oatmeal containers, and more. The Hagley Patent Office will give young inventors patents for the inventions they make in the Create-an-Invention workshop. Hagley volunteers will be distributing a flyer to parents about recycling their child’s invention.

Information and a schedule on the Science Shows and other activities are available at www.hagley.org. Toscana Catering at Hagley will provide family-friendly foods for purchase.

Invention Convention is sponsored, in part, by Agilent Technologies, Inc., Goodwill of Delaware and Delaware County, Keystone Digital Imaging Incorporated, Nickle Electrical Companies, and Potter Anderson & Corroon LLP.

Hagley Museum and Library collects, preserves, and interprets the unfolding history of American enterprise. Hagley is located in Wilmington, Delaware. For more information, call (302) 658-2400 weekdays or visit www.hagley.org
